New! Abstract Layering Techniques: Level 1
Weekend Workshop Sat & Sun January 25 & 26, 1-5pm each day Solana Studio, Santa Barbara, CA Cost: $225 EXPLORE THE EXCITING POSSIBILITIES of building an abstract painting layer by layer with local artist Madeline Garrett. Having worked as a professional artist for 25 years, Madeline brings a wealth of knowledge from her experiences and provides an inspiring, supportive approach to teaching. Through demonstration, exercises, one-on-one time with each student, and group discussions, you will develop your own visual language of color, shapes and marks that create depth and add interest to your work.

About my workshops:
Abstract Layering Techniques: Level 1 & 2 will get you rolling with ideas to build beautiful and complex paintings. An Advanced class has been added to the schedule for those that have taken Levels 1 & 2 and want to go BIG!! We will upscale the techniques, work on larger canvas or panel, and develop our studio practice with a focus on building a series. And for those that just want to have some fun while painting with their friends, sign up for an evening Studio Night with three hours of painting, music, wine and fun with your friends.
How to sign up: Descriptions and dates for each workshop are provided below. If you are interested in signing up, please click the APPLY button and submit the required information. Classes are small so that I can provide ample attention for each student, and makes it possible for me to tailor the workshop exercises to fit student's needs and interests. I will send a link to remit payment after the application has been accepted. The workshops are located in sunny Santa Barbara, CA with many hotel options available for those traveling to the workshop. There are also many VRBO's and Airbnb's where fellow artists can coordinate their accommodations if needed. Solana Studio is peaceful and inspiring, just a couple blocks from the beach, with excellent lighting, french doors to the patio, and a fireplace for cozy workspace on winter days.

ABSTRACT LAYERING TECHNIQUES - LEVEL 2
3-Day Workshop Solana Studio, Santa Barbara, CA CONTINUE THE JOURNEY in Abstract Layering Techniques with teacher/mentor Madeline Garrett. Building on the foundation of layering techniques learned in Level 1, this class will dive into color and composition with an emphasis on the final phases of the creative cycle – how to reduce and refine the surface until the painting feels complete. Class will be structured with discussion, demonstrations, and more painting time to practice these techniques. Self-expression will be highly encouraged in order to develop your own visual language of color, shapes, and marks that create depth and authenticity to your work. Prerequisite: Must complete Level 1 before taking Level 2 DATES:

As a student I found your workshop most helpful in freeing me up and getting me out of the usual patterns. You are most generous in sharing your knowledge of art, its history, criticism, and technique. STUDIO NIGHT
3-Hour Painting Event Date & Time: To request a date & time, please click the APPLY button below! STUDIO NIGHT is perfect for those that have always wanted to paint but haven't had the time or opportunity to give it a try. It's kind of like a happy hour with happy colors of paint and crazy creativity. Imagine what you can do with three hours of guided lessons, with wine and music tailored to your preferences. You and your friends can have an amazing time hanging out, being artistic, and learning something new and creative. At the end of the evening you will feel like you experienced a taste of the artist life, and quite possibly walk away with some new masterpieces that only you could create, with new talents that you can continue to work on at home.
